When using turnbuckles, fasteners used to adjust tension, which consist of two threaded rods with eyelets, hooks, or claws at the ends, accurately measuring the size of the turnbuckle is crucial to ensure structural safety. Follow these steps for an accurate measurement:
Step 1: Make sure the tensioner is fully closed. Turn the central structure (the body of the tensioner) clockwise until the ends of the threaded rods meet.
Step 2: Use a caliper to measure the diameter of the threaded rods. Position the caliper just above the first thread, near the end of the eyelet, hook, or claw. Avoid placing the caliper on the threads or too close to the end of the rod. Record this measurement and note it as "A".
Step 3: Use a ruler to measure the internal length of the tensioner body. The tensioner body is the component you turn to adjust the tension. Focus on the visible rectangular part of the body, where the threaded rods are exposed. Note this measurement as "BB".
Step 4: Consult a turnbuckle load chart to find the load capacity corresponding to your measurements A (thread diameter in mm) and BB (body length in mm). Each turnbuckle, with its specific dimensions, has a unique load capacity.
